Complete participation in the program described below is a prerequisite for receiving a confirmation of attendance with the award of the ECTS.If you do not take part in all events, you will only receive a confirmation of attendance without the award of the ECTS.If you are unable to attend through no fault of your own, please contact us immediately to clarify the awarding of the the ECTS.

It is not up to us to decide whether the ECTS awarded will be recognized at your university. Please clarify this with your faculty before applying.

This Septemberschool is open for enrolled students from a DHIK university or THENSA-University:

Here you can find the 37 member universities of the German DHIK.
Here you can find the 9 member universities of the South African THENSA plus 1 associate member university in Namibia.

All courses are taught in English. This is why the English language level B2 is required.

Due to the entry regulations for German nationals, the passport must be valid for at least 30 days beyond the date of departure and have at least two free pages for visa stamps.
If you are not a German citizen, please inform yourself about the entry requirements for South Africa.

Red Bus (Private Day Tour)

Explore all the top and lesser-known iconic monuments and famous landmarks on our Cape Town sightseeing bus tours.
Our own private tour allows us to explore the best of this city, at your own pace. With over 20 highlights, you'll have plenty of opportunities to  explore the Cape Town landmarks and attractions that appeal to you in this award-winning city!

Cape Town is the country's oldest city and the seat of the Parliament of South Africa.
Although it is the second largest city of South Africa, after Johannesburg, it is known for its habour and its natural setting.
This is why Cape Town was named the best place in the world to visit by the New York Times.

Table Mountain is one of the most well-known mountains in Africa. It provides a magnificent view to cosmopolitan Cape Town.
Take the lift to explore one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature.

Traditional lunch time at Hout Bay:
- Fish & Chips or
- Salad roll & Chips (for vegatarians)

We will do this excursion at the beginning of the September School, so you can get a feeling about everything.
Afterwards you can reach out to our local coordinator to plan your own additional trips in your free time.

Franschhoek wine tasting tram

Germany has the best beer in the wold, but South Africa has the best wine in the world.
So you have to experience an exceptional wine tasting while enjoying the serene surroundigs of the Franschhoek mountains and vineyards in the most exclusive locations.
This day will be the ultimate spoil and the perfect opportunitiy to relax and celebrate life.

Kirstenbosch National Botanic Garden

As part of the Cape Floristic Region Protected Area, that was proclaimed a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this garden is one of the great botanic gardens of the world. Run by the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI), it contributes to South Africa's sustainable developement by facilitating access to biodiversity areas.

Boulders Beach

Boulders Beach is located  in Simon's Town and home of a unique and endangered land-based colony of African Penguins.

Robben Island and V&A Waterfront (on your own)

Half-day excursion and guided tour to Robben Island on your own.
Robben Island is known as the Apartheid prison and “Mandela University”

Light lunch at the famous Victoria & Alfred Waterfront.
Afterwards you can explore this neighbourhood and enjoy the nightlife at the fun places of Cape Town.

Individual Tours on your own expense in your free time:

We also want to make sure that you have enough free time to explore the region on your own.
A list of further attractions and acitivities, that we highly recommend, will be provided to participants in advance.
Additional excursions are optional and may be organised if there is sufficent interest on your own expenses

Protea Hotel Tyger Valley

Located in the heart of the Northern Suburbs with panoramic views from the mountains to the sea, Protea Hotel by Marriott Cape Town Tyger Valley is one of the most scenic hotels in the city.
Situated 12.5km from the Cape Town International airport and 6km from the Bellville Campus of CPUT, you will get from here to there and everywhere very quickly.

The costs for the accommodation and breakfast are included in the participation fee.

Single Basis vs. Shared Basis:

Your particiation fee depends on whether you book a single room or share a double room.
In a shared double room you have 2 single beds and we take gender seperation into account when allocating the rooms.

The total costs are as follows:
1.200€ per person (sharing)
1.600€ per person (single)

One thing you will see in South Africa:

When they are happy, they eat.
When they are sad, they eat.
When they fight, they eat.
So they really love their food and therefore they really want to give you a taste of their food.

Included in your fee is:

• Breakfast at the hotel
• Lunch during academic sessions (10 days)
• Meet-and-Greet-Welcome Braai (traditional open fire BBQ)
• Lunch during excursions (Fish&Chips in Hout Bay / at V&A Waterfront)

Please inform us about your special dietary requirements!
We can cater for most of the dietary requirements and want to make sure you enjoy every day.

If you think about renting a vehicle:
Please be aware of the fact that in South Africa they are driving on the left side.
There are frequent warnings about deep potholes.
An international driving licence would be helpful.

Vodacom - Local cell phone network (at the Airport)

Please bring your Cell Phone with an empty space for a SIM Card and your Passwort.
You can get a SIM Card on your phone for 499 ZAR (ca. 25€)

WLAN

WLAN will be available at the hotel and at the Campus, but it is not so easily available.

Fees for a wonderful once in a lifetime experience:

The fee of 1.200€ includes

• Transport: Airport transfers, daily transfers to Campus, transport during the 3 official excursions
• Accommodation: Shared doubleroom at the Protea Hotel Tyger Valley with breakfast, swimmingpool and daily housekeeping
• Catering: Breakfast at the hotel, lunch at the Campus (10 days), lunch during the 3 official excursions
• Red Bus Excursion : Private Day Tour
• Excursion: Franschhoek wine tasting tram
• Excursion to another hotspot in the region

Upgrade option:

It is possible to upgrade your hotel room to a single room. This upgrade costs 400€, so that the participation fee is then 1,600€

This participation fee does not include

• Individual arrival/departure to/from Cape Town
• Lunches beside the above mentioned, Tea Time Snacks and Dinners
• additional excursions
• Visa fees
• Costs for international bank transfers
• Costs for vaccinations, prophylaxis and health insurance abroad
• Costs for souvenirs
• South African SIM Card
• Costs for travel cancellation insurance
